Backyard battle

Backyard battle on Karl road by Adrian Curry

Last night I tuned in to the northland-desales game. These two schools are separated less than 10 minutes from each other did battle. Northland coming off a dominating league win over centennial while desales was coming off a league loss to watterson. This game started off extremely slow as both teams had trouble scoring and would turn the ball over a lot as well as missed shots. Desales would grab a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The 2nd quarter would see the pace pick up as both teams would start to score. Northland also was able to turn the stallions over leading to some easy baskets and were able to take advantage of their speed and strength inside. Desales was able to get some timely baskets and at the end of the first half it was tied at 11. The 3rd quarter some momentum go back and forth with desales grabbing a 3-point lead only to see the Vikings go on a 13-5 run thanks to their pressure defense and speedy guards to take a 3-point lead. Give the stallions credit for responding and getting the score tied at the end of the 3rd quarter at 24. The 4th quarter was the undoing for the Vikings as desales took an early 26-24 lead in the 4th but the Vikings had plenty of opportunities to tie and take the lead but was only able to convert 1 free throw to get within 1. The stallions were able to hit a key 3-pointer by stefanie karros fueled a 8-1 run closing run by the stallions that including icing it at the line as they would win the game 34-25. With the win the stallions improve 6-6 while northland drops to 6-3 with the loss. Stefanie karros led all scorers with 20 points while bri Hamilton led northland with 13 points.
