Battle for the North

I tuned in to my first city league game of the season as Beechcroft traveled to face the Stars of Centennial. Both teams in a shortened city league season came in with identical 3-0 records in the city league north. The winner would have the inside track to the north division championship and a berth in next Saturday’s City League Championship game. This game went back and forth early on as both teams tried to seize momentum. The Stars were on the short end of it trailing 16-15 at the end of the first quarter. The 2nd quarter the Stars were able to gain the momentum back and make some shots down low and from the perimeter and were able to gain a 31-27 lead at the halftime break. The 3rd quarter was all Beechcroft as they took over the game by going an early 12-3 run fueled by great defense and hot shooting . Centennial battled back and got within 6 in the 3rd quarter but Beechcroft kept coming at them with relentless pressure and ended the quarter on a 10-0 run. The 4th quarter was more of the same as the stars were unable to make shots and this led to fast break points for the cougars. The cougars defense was tremendous and suffocating as they shut down the stars only allowing 13 points in the 2nd half on their way to a dominating 63-44 win over Centennial. With the win Beechcroft moves to 4-0 and a step closer to the city league championship game while centennial drops to 3-1 on the season.
