June Wrap Up/ Jumping into July by Adrian Curry

As today is the last day of June I thought I would wrap high school month. This month was a month where a lot of teams got better and in some cases starting bonding with their new coach and their staff. Coming into the month the overwhelming theme was teams having to replace superstars that have graduated that had a made an impact on their teams last year. As this month has unfolded that this will be another competitive season upcoming. Also there will some surprise teams this season as well. One of the teams that impressed me this month was Sheridan. They are coming off a final four berth last season losing to the eventual state champs zia Cooke and Toledo Rogers. They return several key pieces from that team including Kendyl Mick. Had one of the most impressive wins I saw this month as they beat another canton glenoak who went to the final four themselves in division 1. Sheridan looks like they can make another deep around this season and make it to the state tournament this season. Another team that impressed was mount notre dame. The defending champs played in osu team camp 2 weeks ago. They are placing 2 key players in their championship run a year ago in Gabbie Marshall and Julia hoeffling and played with KK Bransford. However they still have makira cook, one of the fastest point guards in the area along chance gray from Lakota west along with Laila Pheila allowed to be very competitive. They lost to africentric by 1 and beat a very good glen oak team in a rematch of last seasons division 1 semifinal by 4. Another impressive performance this month was by pickerington central. Coming off back to back state tournament trips with one championship but losing Madison Greene and maliya perry it was going to be interesting to how they were going to adjust. They also had a rematch with Toledo notre dame and sophomore grace van slooten. They were able to dominate them from beginning to end. It should be noted that toledo notre will be really young building around grace but they should be good towards the end of the season. Coming out of June for me central district will be very much up for grabs. Pickerington central has dominated the last couple of seasons but with gahanna having the deepest roster including seniors edyn battle and Morgan Darnell among Reynoldsburg with sophomore post Alexia Mobley this will be a fascinating season. Also don’t forget about teams such as Westerville south and Coffman they have talented players coming back but have gone through coaching changes as well. As we jump into July aau season starts back up. July is a month where you can get exposure and be noticed by college coaches or get exposed. In some instances this is the last July (i.e. anyssa Jones and gabby hutcherson) and for others this is another July or your first July. This month will start in Louisville running for roses and then end chasing a championship in Atlanta. In between there will be a championship decided in Chicago at Nike nationals, lots of heat in the Hoosier state with the Hoosier heat and the adidas gauntlet. Also the ogbr talent show and the battle for the boro, usjn in dc, and finally Atlanta where a National championship will decided and a peach will splash. This will be great theater and will be very competitive at all of the events. This is the last real competitive basketball until the season starts in November. Good luck to all of those on the aau trail this coming month as well.
